When we become more competent, we fall into complacency.

Ever experienced the butterflies of trying something new?

The uncertainty and lack of confidence that tend to overtake us when we step out into new terrain.

It’s only natural for us to steer away from that.  And to shift towards complacency.

Because when we become more competent, confidence tends to come along.

And when we start to develop confidence in what we are doing, we tend to cling to and hide behind that competence.

Because we still remember that feeling of not being confident.  When the butterflies arise.

So we shift towards complacency and towards maintaining the status quo.

But it doesn’t make it the right choice.  Just the safe one.
